Four Decades Rooted In Conservation

Built from Conservation. Backed by Lived Experience.
Heart
Purpose-Built Field Unit
We are a purpose-built conservation field unit of long-term specialists
whose backgrounds in conservation run deep. Together, we bring nearly 40 years of lived experience in conservation field work,
conservation storytelling and marketing, and conservation administration.
Gregg McLachlan
Founder, Cinematographer, Post-Production, Writer, Editor, Executive Producer

Gregg left an award-winning career as a journalist more than a decade ago to pursue his lifelong passion for nature and become a full-time conservation filmmaker. His return to conservation was a full-circle moment. In his twenties, his original career goal was to become a wildlife technician, until his college application landed on a wait list.

Hard-wired as a storyteller, Gregg has a sharpened ability to find the human core of every story and tell it with clarity, depth, and purpose. That foundation gives his conservation films narrative strength rooted in real voices, truth, and deep respect for the people and places at the heart of the work.

Gregg films using Blackmagic Cinema Cameras to deliver cinematic, science-grounded conservation storytelling.

Dana McLachlan
Business Manager, Accounting, Field Assistant, Voiceover Narration Creator

Prior to joining WorkCabin Films in 2025, Dana spent 15 years fully immersed in conservation work at an Ontario conservation authority. From administration and budgeting to funding applications and board governance, she developed a deep understanding of Ontario’s Conservation Authorities Act, making her an expert navigator of rules and policies. Her years working with nonprofits also give her a firsthand perspective on the challenges these organizations face and the creative solutions that make a difference.

Dana’s strategic approach allows the team to focus on storytelling with confidence, knowing the operations and numbers are in expert hands. Beyond her organizational expertise, she occasionally lends her voice to narration in the studio, bringing stories to life in her own subtle, compelling way. Most recently, her narration can be heard in the conservation documentary Saving The Night Caller, which has screened at several in-person conservation film festivals and will be coming to PBS in spring 2026.

WorkCabin Films is based on the traditional lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation,
and with gratitude to the Neutral, Anishinaabe, and Haudenosaunee peoples.
